In 1979 while traveling to Honduras as part of a medical
brigade, Peterborough, Ontario oral surgeon Dr. Jim McCallum
met Sister Maria Rosa and witnessed first hand the terrifying
and tragic conditions that so many Honduran children face
every day. Upon his return to Canada, Dr. McCallum founded
Friends of Honduran Children in response to his fervent desire
to help Sister Maria Rosa in her tireless efforts. 26 years
later, Friends is a thriving non-profit, grass roots
organization based in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
Our
efforts have helped to save thousands of children from the
ravaging effects of hopeless poverty. Working with our
Honduran partner Sociedad Amigos de los Niņos, we use a broad
approach to solve the problem one Honduran child at a time.
We're focused on delivering sustainable programs rather than
quick-fix band-aid solutions, providing the necessary aid,
supplies and skills that allow Hondurans to help themselves as
they strive to obtain self-sufficiency and personal
fulfillment.
